About Boys to Men Mentoring Network and our work environment. We are a high-demand in-school group mentoring program serving teenage boys from 12 – 17 years old in middle and high schools with additional independent chapters all over the U.S. Our San Diego location is where the Boys to Men Mentoring program originated under co-founders Craig McClain and Joe Sigurdson. We currently partner with 40 schools serving over 1,000 struggling adolescent boys in San Diego.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mentor & Community Engagement Coordinator leads all volunteer mentor and community engagement efforts at Boys to Men Mentoring. This includes recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, communication, retention, and training coordination for volunteer mentors. The coordinator is also responsible for overseeing logistics and supervision coordination for mental health interns and practicum students placed across B2M sites, ensuring their work aligns with program goals and supervision requirements. This role ensures a strong, diverse, and reliable mentor presence across school sites while fostering meaningful connections between youth, mentors, community members, and professionals-in-training.

This is a full-time position that includes facilitating 2-4 weekly mentoring circles, maintaining school partner compliance, and serving as a key liaison between mentors, schools, and the broader B2M team.

Core Responsibilities:

Volunteer Mentor Oversight

  • Lead all mentor recruitment, vetting, onboarding, and engagement strategies
    Oversee, in collaboration with the Executive Director, mentor background checks and compliance requirements
  • Plan and implement mentor training sessions in collaboration with the Training, Evaluation & Education Coordinator
  • Schedule and coordinate mentor staffing for weekly group circles and special events
  • Maintain regular mentor communications, updates, and recognition (e.g., meet-ups, appreciation events)

Mental Health Interns & Practicum Student Coordination

  • Serve as the logistics coordinator for mental health interns and student placements
  • Ensure interns are onboarded, background cleared, and appropriately assigned
  • Coordinate with Program Director and site supervisors for intern evaluation, hours tracking, and compliance with university requirements
  • Help integrate practicum students in mentoring circles, events, and program culture

Community Engagement

  • Represent B2M in mentor outreach efforts (community events, tabling, info sessions)
  • Collaborate with Program Director and Education, Training & Evaluation Coordinator for expanding mentor networks
  • Support program-sponsored outings and recruitment events, including transport coordination
  • Develop mentor-specific outreach and community visibility campaigns

Program & Group Support

  • Facilitate 2-4 group mentoring circles per week
    Support Adventure Mountain Weekends, spring/summer programs, and family-inclusive activities
  • Assist with field trip planning and group logistics when needed

Administrative & Collaborative Duties

  • Maintain and update mentor and intern databases (TraxSolutions, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Attend weekly team check-ins with Program Director
  • Ensure compliance with school and district mentoring requirements
  • Support communication across departments and escalate key issues appropriately
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure ethical mentorship practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s in Social Work, Education, Human Services, or related field required
  • 3+ years of experience in managing volunteers, interns, or mentoring programs
  • Strong experience in youth development, mentoring, or community-based work
  • Familiarity with school systems and mental health service frameworks
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
  • Proficient with databases, spreadsheets, scheduling tools, and email platforms
  • Ability to manage multiple timelines, delegate tasks, and follow through
  • Must pass a background check, fingerprinting, and TB test (if required), and have reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach as needed.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs regularly, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and technology.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to read and communicate clearly in English.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $28.58 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
