Adventure Mountain Weekends
Adventure Mountain Weekends
This weekend, held at our rustic Mt. Palomar property, is the next important step for the boys to decide what type of men they want to become.
This 3-day training is led by experienced facilitators and trained staff and provides a 2:1 ratio of men to boys.
During the weekend, boys are challenged and supported through a series of carefully facilitated activities designed to help boys cope with the ordeals they will face during adolescence. They learn about integrity. They bond with a tribe. They learn about mission and service.
Our boys and Mentors spend more time together this weekend than a typical mentor program provides in six months.
This weekend is a life-changing experience boys never forget.
At the end of Saturday night, after the initiates have successfully completed these challenges and identified the obstacles in their lives, we honor them in our Talisman Ceremony. The ceremony is run completely by boys that have earned their Talisman at a previous weekend, also known as Journeyman. "Journeyman" is the name bestowed on a boy who has successfully completed an AMW. At this ceremony, they are gifted the Talisman and given the title Journeyman. We explain to them what the Talisman means and they then join the Boys to Men community in their path to True Manhood.
The talisman incorporates three rings:
- The inner circle represents the boys being initiated that weekend.
- The outer ring of the talisman, the end of the stone itself, represents the community of men and Journeyman that aided in the initiation during this weekend.
- The final ring is the string that circles around their neck. This represents Boys to Men's international community of mentors and boys from different parts of the world that also share this similar experience. They are all connected no matter where they may be.
