About Boys to Men Mentoring Network and our work environment. We are a high-demand in-school group mentoring program serving teenage boys from 12 – 17 years old in middle and high schools with additional independent chapters all over the U.S. Our San Diego location is where the Boys to Men Mentoring program originated under co-founders Craig McClain and Joe Sigurdson. We currently partner with 40 schools serving over 1,000 struggling adolescent boys in San Diego.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Boys to Men Mentoring Executive Director, the Interim Director of Development will ensure the continuity and momentum of Boys to Men Mentoring’s fundraising efforts during a 6-month period. This role is a key leadership position focused on carrying forward the permanent Director of Development’s strategic development plan, maintaining the organization’s development plans, maintaining strong donor and funder relationships, supporting the onboarding and training of a new Development Assistant, supervising development contractors and volunteers, and sustaining fundraising initiatives. The Interim Director of Development will play a critical role in ensuring a smooth and successful transition back to the permanent staff member upon their return from leave, keeping all development activities aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fund Development and Strategy Execution

  • Implement and manage the approved annual fundraising plan, aligning activities with Boys to Men’s long-term goals, mission, vision, core values, and development priorities.
  • Oversee and support ongoing strategies for securing foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, private foundation gifts, direct mail campaigns, individual major gifts, sustaining members, and special event fundraising.
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with donors, corporate partners, and foundations; ensure timely and meaningful stewardship.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, support the Executive Director and Board members with solicitation strategies and donor engagement.
  • Maintain the organization’s “Moves Management” system for donor cultivation and stewardship.
    Development Department Management
  • Support the onboarding and training of the incoming Development Assistant to ensure successful integration into development operations.
  • Supervise development contractors and volunteers assisting with grant writing, donor communications, special events, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate and timely gift acknowledgement, grant reporting, and database management (CRM).
  • Provide leadership in planning and executing special events, donor appreciation efforts, and cultivation activities.

Financial Oversight

  • Oversee, monitor, and manage the Development Department’s budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director and finance team.
  • Assist with financial reporting on fundraising progress for board, leadership, and committee meetings.
    Internal and External Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with program staff to align fundraising goals with programmatic needs.
  • Engage actively with the Development Committee and Leadership Council Committee to advance fundraising strategies and cultivate supporter networks.
  • Serve on the organization’s senior management team, attending leadership meetings and Board of Directors meetings as needed.
  • Keep the Executive Director, Board Chair, and Development Committee Chair regularly informed on fundraising activities, strategies, and results.
  • Stay current on IRS regulations, best practices, and trends affecting charitable giving.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required or higher; advanced studies are helpful but not required
  • 3-5 years of professional non-profit fundraising experience, direct experience with major gifts ($5,000+), donor stewardship, and grants management.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in achieving fundraising goals and managing comprehensive development programs.
  • Knowledge of fundraising programs, including annual giving, major gifts, deferred giving, and events.
  • Familiarity with donor database systems (DonorPerfect helpful), P2P and EMS platforms, email marketing, and social media.
  • Exceptional organizational, research, writing, public speaking, and donor engagement skills.
    Proven, collaborative, and solution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach as needed.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs regularly, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and technology.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to read and communicate clearly in English.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $9,000.00 – $12,000.00 per month

Compensation: $25/hour, part-time up to 24 hours per week
Schedule: (3) 8-hour shifts per week, with evenings and weekends as needed (Two days onsite, one day remote)

Position Overview:
We seek a reliable and detail-oriented Development Assistant to join our team. The Development Assistant will play a vital role in our development team, providing administrative support for the planning and execution of fundraising efforts. This position involves a variety of tasks aimed at helping our organization meet its fundraising goals and effectively engage with donors.

  • Event Support:
    • Manage the registration list for fundraising events, ensuring all guest information is accurate and up to date.
    • Oversee the collection and processing of payments for ticket sales and sponsorships.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Assistant to ensure proper coding of ticket sales and sponsorship payments.
    • Track expenses related to events, ensuring accurate accounting and budget adherence.
    • Research venues for potential events and support the selection process based on logistical needs.
    • In collaboration with the event consultant, assist with event logistics, including coordinating catering and equipment rental.
    • Coordinate and assist in procuring event auction items and upload them into our event database
    • Work with the team to capture photos and videos of events and activities.
  • Database Support: 
    • Collaborate with our Database Consultant to ensure that database records are always up-to-date.
    • Occasionally support our Database Consultant with outgoing mail.
    • Maintain and update the donor database, ensuring all donor information is accurate and current. Generate reports as needed to track fundraising progress.
  • Donor Communication:
    • Communicate with our peer-to-peer fundraisers during the annual 100 Wave Challenge fundraiser, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
    • Offer email marketing support using Mailchimp 
    • Collaborate with our Marketing Consultant to ensure she has the correct information to draft our bi-weekly 100 Wave email campaign emails.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with the day-to-day administrative tasks that support the development team, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, preparing meeting materials, and tracking development-related expenses. 
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with all team members to provide support on various projects, campaigns, and initiatives to enhance donor engagement and retention efforts.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Undertake additional tasks and special projects as necessary to support the development function, including ordering supplies to facilitate event execution and daily operations.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant nonprofit experience is preferred
  • Experience using MailChimp is preferred, but not required
  • Experience with Qgiv, Donor Perfect, and Greater Giving is also preferred, but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
  • Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A proactive and positive attitude, displaying a strong commitment to the organization’s mission.
  • A team player mentality with a strong work ethic and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
